World Health Day - Diet, Fitness, and Healthy Lifestyle Should be the Focus

While you may hear about World Health Day and the focus on such debatable claims like 'global warming' and the challenges faced with a rise in the Earth's temperature, but there are bigger issues at stake. For starters, the health of mankind needs to be mentioned from a diet and fitness level. Although this may sound much less important than trying to eradicate deadly diseases like AIDS or malaria, the fact is that many more diseases will be present and many more lives at stake in years to come, without a focus on a quality food supply. Just because mankind can be fed, doesn't mean that mankind is going to be healthy, only perhaps survive another day. Without wholesome foods grown on good quality soil full of nutrients and trace minerals and the like, the immune systems of all living things could be compromised to the point of making a common cold a common risk of death. Sounds extreme but even HIV positive patients see a great benefit to a very strict diet that enhances their immune system and leaves out processed foods that can deplete its strength.

How is it that food could be the basis for good health for all? Is it the hundreds of nutrients present in whole foods that we don't hear about or aren't talked about? Maybe these healthy sources of nutrition are overshadowed by marketing efforts of the big burger places and soft drink makers. It's not unrealistic to think that society will lose many of the nutrients that are very important to supporting good health and preventing disease much the same way that certain species are now extinct. Afterall, genetically modified seeds have made their way into the food system in a BIG way. What effect is this having? Will we know anytime soon?

A healthy diet and lifestyle should be the focus of World Health Day, instead of what citizens are doing that may be raising the temperature of the Earth. Sure we need to make diseases like Malaria and Small Pox obsolete. Anything that we have vaccines for should be practically non-existent with a concerted effort. But the big problem that supercedes these is the foundation of health - diet. What you decide to eat will determine whether or not we, together, the farmers that provide fruits and vegetables will still be in existence in years to come. They won't be needed if they have a product that no one wants. Make the choice to eat more fruits and vegetables. Increase the demand, while decreasing the demand for hamburgers, soft drinks, potato chips, or any other processed foods. The collective choices of the citizens of the planet is what ultimately will decide where the future of the World lies.

The World Health Organization (WHO) was (apparently) founded on this day, and I suppose that's the reason for this day as World Health Day. Maybe a healthy diet day should be started to help increase awareness of what a healthy diet really is. Is it french fries, hot dogs, pizza, soft drinks, cereal (and I don't mean Oatmeal here!), and pastries? Most of the foods offered that have been pre-packaged - that is, already made and can be eaten out of the box or heated - are missing hundreds of important nutrients for supporting your health. There isn't one food or soft drink manufacturer or fast food restaurant that would be behind a World Healthy Diet Day as described. They would lose hundreds of millions of dollars just in one day.

With a healthy diet you can expect weight loss if you need it; you can expect more energy if you seek it; you can expect your IQ to go up if you want it. You may see your income go up, your relationships improve (oh yeah? you don't think your sex life is better with more energy and a slimmer body?), your creative thoughts and productivity as a person may improve. These are all things, and more, that have been noticed by individuals who make the effort to improve their health by changing what they eat. A healthy diet plan is just the beginning to a healthy lifestyle.

If you really want to make World Health Day something to talk about, then give up the top contributors to the overweight and obesity epidemic - soft drinks, fast foods, and any other packaged foods that aren't made with the intent to IMPROVE and SUPPORT your health.

A Healthy Lunch part of a Healthy Diet

Lunch is a very important meal - one that needs to keep your metabolism going and provide you the energy for the afternoon stretch. Most people we find not bringing their own lunch to work, but instead buying. In my experience, not only is buying more expensive to you and adds up quickly if you're on a budget, but it's most often compromising to your health, especially when you can better control what you're going to eat when you make your own at home. You can get what you need at the supermarket, prepare it exactly how you like it, and be sure that the fruit and or vegetable that you want is included. And believe me, all of this is going to be cheaper than going somewhere and having someone prepare your sandwich. And if it's not more expensive, then be assured that it is certainly "garbage" that you're eating (i.e. fast food?).

Here's more from Michael Pollihan who agrees about most of what we consume being less-than-healthy-food -

According to Michael Pollan, most of what Americans consume isn't food. He calls it "edible foodlike substances." He also says that the way we consume it is not really eating. It's something we do pretty unconsciously as we work or drive or watch TV. We all know about the U.S. epidemic of obesity and diabetes over the past 25 years, on top of the steady rise of chronic diseases over the past hundred. Paradoxically, this happens just as Americans and the food industry are ever more aware of nutrition. What's going on here? Pollan claims that in the Western diet, good old food has been replaced by nutrients, mom's good advice by nutritional experts, common sense by confusion, and for most, a relatively good diet by a bad and dangerous one. The book in which he makes all these claims and advises us simply to "Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants," has topped the New York Times bestseller list. (from AlterNet.org)

Comments: Bottom line, most of what is offered at supermarkets, sporting events, bowling alleys, quick shops, fast food restaurants, and everywhere that has a shelf with a food item on it, is just not the best nutrition for our health. Start with those items that come from the garden, or the orchard.

A Healthy Diet and Higher Education Increases Longevity

It turns out that not only does a healthy diet assist with supporting good health and preventing disease and therefore longevity, but so does have a higher education. That means that if you have a higher level of eduation - say for instance a Master's Degree - you are more likely to live longer. This could also be interpreted to mean that those who continue to learn and educate themselves, and that would include reading, studying, and being active in problem-solving - things that require some thinking and essentially exercising the brain - have more of a chance of living longer. Other studies have shown that those who remain active in their later years also may live longer, with the presumption that being "active" in turn keeps the mind 'sharp' and 'active'. Here's more on a Harvard Study on the subject as reported by Rose Hoban --

Harvard University health policy researcher Ellen Meara says scholars have found some clues as to why some groups of people have more or less disease than others. She says one important factor in people's health is the amount of education they have. In her most recent paper, Meara looked at data from the United States census. These counts of people occur every 10 years. Meara and her colleagues examined data from several decades. "We looked at life expectancy at age 25," Meara says.

Juice Plus+ is made by juicing 17 different fruits and vegetables into a vitamin supplement all in a capsule form. A cup of other vitamins and a tablespoon of apples and many other fruits, all for health. When you start with a juice from a fruit or vegetable, and then you add others, you get a healthy mix of nutrients with the water and sugars removed. But when you dry the mix, you are left with the nutrients and that is what goes into a Juice Plus+ Capsule. Many people are looking at grapefruit juice as an option. But can get what some say is the juice powder - that is, what's left when the sugar and water are removed through a drying process, and you are left with only healthy nutrients. Do you know the juices from which the fruit juice plus blend is made? Apples, oranges, pineapples, cranberries, peaches, cherries, and papaya juice - and that's just the fruit juices! Add the vegetables with carrots, parsley, beets, kale, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, and tomato and you've got the vegetable juice plus product, that is a healthy product that supports your health! It helps you get nutrients you need. When I have fresh fruits and vegetables, I feel good, but I don't always get enough. So the only one way to add more fruits and vegetables is to add more nutrition to my diet plan, weight loss plan, diet. With this supplement, many say it is a concentrated fruit juice powder or vegetable powder, referring to the final Juice Plus+ product that is put into a capsule. Like our Weight loss plan that is a doctor approved diet plan, this is a healthy choice. A diet and weight loss plan that is endorsed by healthy dieters around the world, you can always lose weight, but are you doing it the healthy way? You can also use Medifast to support your weight loss efforts. Their meals are good for this purpose. Oprah's Dr. Mehmet Oz knows that a diet is temporary but a healthy lifestyle with a healthy diet plan in place is for good. Even Juice plus+ is made from the juice from an orange and many other fruit juices, that gives it a lot of nutrition when a cup of results and lemon is added - that doesn't make sense! Add fountain water without some breville and juice fountain, although if you had a tablespoon of the fruit juice powder, then adding more juice can be a convenient way to get nutrients but more convenient when it's in a capsule. (that may not make sense either!) When I can't have those healthy and fresh products, I use juice plus vitamin, and juice nsa plus is a way to get healthy with juice plus vitamin. If you are a distributor juice plus, then the gummies juice plus is juice plus supplement to look into. The juice plus scam that we see does not hold much credence - just a bitter old man that has nothing better to do with his time, but it is a problem. You may have read a juice plus review that is similar to acai juice plus. If you are interested in any juice plus product and you want to learn if there are any benefits, then look at the juice plus research - there's plenty. Breville fountain juice plus is not one of the things that is available, but a complete juice plus line can be found at www.jpsupplement.com. There is another common product by Breville -it's a fountain of juice products that have health benefits. If you have a complaint with juice plus, then any distributor for juice nsa plus can help you. Juice noni plus is not something you can find when you try to buy juice plus. Every single ingredient juice plus has fiber juice plus and can be found in the capsules. Don't get ebay juice plus because you can't be sure of the quality. You may use to find inc juice nsa plus for you diet, but don't expect to use a breville fountain. If you look for the capsules or the pills - don't be confused it's not a weight loss plan, Dr Oz Diet, be sure to consider thins, the vineyard, and even the gummy. There is dog juice plus and gummy juice plus, too. Use juice plus for any pregnancy as a perfect alternative to most vitamins on the market. There is a juice plus study, actually many that validate the quality and effectiveness of the nutrition. Juice Plus+ is made by juicing 17 different fruits and vegetables, then with a cup of vitamins and a tablespoon of apples, you get a healthy Medifast start. When you start with a juice, and then you add another, you get a healthy combination. Juice plus is made with an orange, a lot of orange juice, that gives it a lot of nutrition when a cup of results and lemon is added. Also, there are many weight loss plans out there, but the one that most people agree is the best is a weight loss diet plan, Dr Oz diet approved diet plan. If you have used a plan endorsed by doctors such as Dr Oz, then you know it's a weight loss plan that is healthy, and if followed will lead to a permanent healthy and fit lifestyle! When I have fresh fruits and vegetables in my diet plan, I know I'm going to be healthy, but sometimes we just don't get enough. And one sure way to add more nutrition to your diet.

"How many additional years can you expect to live if you arrive at age 25 and your education has stopped at high school, or sooner? Versus how many years, can you expect to live if you've reached aged 25 and you've gone on to at least some college…" Meara says they found that in 1990, a 25-year-old who only had some secondary school could expect to live for a total of 75 years. In 2000, a 25 year old with some secondary education could also expect to live to the age of 75. In contrast, for a better educated 25-year-old, they could expect to live to the age of 80 in 1990. Someone with a similar education level in the year 2000, could expect to live to be more than 81 years, 81.6 years to be exact. read on...

Antioxidant Power in Blackberries

Blackberries' health properties touted...

When we start to wake up to the fact that foods with high antioxidant properties are the ones that will save us from sickness and disease, only then will we reduce our health care costs, live a higher quality of life, and enjoy more of life than ever before.

Unfortunately, the marketplace continues to offer us unhealthy foods that are filled with chemicals, very addictive and fatty, and offer litle in the way of nutrition. Just an extra two pieces of fruit and/or vegetables a day would make a big difference in the quality of health for most people.

If you have the ability to add some foods with high antioxidant properties - like blackberries - or the nutrients from such foods, then do so. You will be supporting your health in more ways than you will be able to see or feel.

Sick Care vs. Health Care

Sick Care vs. Health Care - Do you know which side you are on? There is a difference, and these are not two phrases that we can throw around anymore as if to joke about the truth of most medical care (aside from emergencies and some antibiotics, in my humble opinion). Sick care is waiting until you get sick and getting medicine to "heal" you, while the side effects tear down your body and your immune system, only to have you back to the MD's office needing more "healing" (drugs). This spiraling downward can go on for YEARS, until one day you don't wake up... or you wake up to the truth that you need to just eat right and exercise to be healthy!

The Overweight Epidemic (from Paul Zane Pilzer)

"In the past, we have always associated poverty with being terribly thin, mostly due to starvation. When I was young I wanted to grow up to be a “rich fat man.” Today, the tables have turned; “poor” and “fat” have become synonymous, and “rich fat man” has become an oxymoron! Centuries ago, the only corpulent people were royalty and wealthy landowners. Today, the lower the income, the more we see obesity, and the higher the income, the more we see men and women who are fit and trim, defying their age. [Get a copy of his book, The Wellness Revolution]

Since 1980, we have more than doubled the percentage of overweight and obese people in the United States. In 1980, 15 percent of the population was obese; by the year 2000, that number had jumped to 27 percent—that’s 77 million clinically obese people! Today, 61 percent of the U.S. population is overweight and headed towards obesity—which has increased 10 percent to almost 30 percent of the U.S. population. As a result, 18 million Americans have diabetes and another 41 million over age 40 have prediabetes. Most people with prediabetes develop type 2 diabetes in 10 years. Sixty-five percent of people with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke, and the medical costs alone to treat diabetes now exceeds $100 billion a year.

Moreover, overweight and obesity are also symptoms of poor nutrition. Typically someone who is obese is also vitamin-deficient and suffers from fatigue and arthritis or other ailments that all stem from poor nutrition. Our food industry, which represents about one trillion dollars annually, exacerbates the problem by catering to the “lowest common denominator” of poor nutrition.

What about our health care? The truth is, what we call “health care” is not really the health business but the sickness business. Our medical industry today has very little to do with health. The $2 trillion we spend on medical care, which represents one-sixth of the U.S. economy, is concerned almost exclusively with treating the symptoms of illness. It has very little to do with preventing illnesses or with making people feel stronger or healthier."

If you want to be healthy, you've got to start by taking control of your own daily habits - mental, dietary, and exercise. Start by building positive thoughts and a belief in yourself, then work on busting your diet vices, add some exercise, and what I believe to be a great nutritional supplement... and you've got the combination for prevention, good health, and a good life!

Don't wait. Start today.
