While the researchers couldn't point to particular foods that caused the weight gain, they did find that the calorie increase was coming from two sources: alcohol and fat. "Dietitians know that people eat differently on the weekends than during the week," Blatner says, "but this study validates that by focusing on small changes in our weekend eating and drinking habits, we can curtail weight gain." Comments: It is true that the weekends seem to provide the best (or worst) opportunity to eat more often, and more of the wrong foods. When this should be an opportunity to spend more time at the gym, or more time outdoors being active, it seems the temptations that exist all around are too much for us to avoid. Time is a factor - we must plan our weekend so that we're not sitting too long and snacking, or going shopping without first getting a healthy meal. Even being prepared by carrying healthy snacks and water is always a good choice. Don't let extra time be an opportunity for extra, unneeded calories. Eat healthy, choose healthy, live healthy!
